Hi, my name is Maurizio Isabella but everybody
calls me
My story.
I haven’t always been a handpan artisan. It’s been a journey.
This journey starts from Rome, my hometown. Every person who has been in Rome has felt that this city has something special. For me, it’s always been about its sound: the voices, the noises, sometimes the silence.
Despite my creative push, I studied and worked in the optics sector for a long time. In 2016, though, it became clear that something different was calling me. By chance (or not?) I came across with an handpan artisan and immediately felt attracted by the beauty and power of that instrument.
So, I jumped right into it and learnt how to become an artisan myself. My love for music and sound has guided me through the years, and has helped me to improve my handcrafting skills with exceptional consistency.
Every handpan I make is a reflection of my perspective on art, life and music. It’s not just iron and steel, trust me.
Every day, I can draw inspiration and strenght from my loving family. I have three children that mean the world to me. I can also get inspired by my community, my friends, and by good food and wine, but that’s another story (which might have to do with my nickname).
By creating handpans with my hands, I feel I contribute to generating something beautiful. With my handpans, musicians from all over the world can transform the waves and vibrations around them, share their emotions and melt them with others’.
And I think that’s cool.
